Rosemont School ‘Going Green’ With Recycling Bags

In an effort to encourage the Rosemont School of the Holy Child community to go green, the Student Council is selling reusable shopping bags to replace plastic shopping bags. Listed below are some detrimental effects of plastic bags on our environment.

  • Plastic bags produce waste. Once they are used, most plastic bags go to a landfill or are discarded to litter the environment. If they are burned, the bags produce toxic fumes.
  • Plastic bags are non-biodegradable. Plastic bags require about 1,000 years to decompose.
  • Plastic bags are harmful to animals. About 100,000 animals such as dolphins, turtles, whales, penguins are killed every year by eating plastic bags.
  • Petroleum is required to produce plastic bags.

The bags are being sold for $2.50 each. Proceeds from the sale of these bags will further Student Council initiatives.
