Cornelia's Challenge In April 2005, the Board of Trustees authorized Cornelia's Challenge, a capital campaign, to raise $8.5 million for the
construction and renovation of facilities on the Rosemont campus. Cornelia Connelly founded the Society of the Holy Child Jesus in 1846. A forward-thinking and deeply compassionate woman, she urged educators to both "to love God with his little ones" and "to meet the wants of the age." She urged both her sisters and their students to "Be yourself but make that self just what Our Lord wants it to be." Her noble goals for education inspire Rosemont School classrooms on a daily basis and give the school the courage and foresight to always plan ahead.
Cornelia's Challenge will fund new academic and athletic space. Last year, Rosemont School dedicated its new, 13,600-square-foot O'Neill Gymnasium, which has space for performing arts, and an athletic field. On December 1, 2008, the 25,400-square-foot addition to the Academic Center opened. The facility encompasses space for two homerooms per grade (17 per homeroom), a new Chapel and library, an expanded cafeteria, and increased science, music and art facilities. In addition, the Tudor building will be renovated to maintain its importance as the heart of the campus.
Campaign leaders have already raised more than $8.4 million, an amount that includes three gifts of $1 million. Rosemont School is soliciting broader-based support to reach the goal, thus ensuring a quality education for Rosemont School students for years to come.
